Even at the end of a long working-week, Fellside parents were still out in force after school on Friday to take part in our water-relay events.
Not to be outdone by their children, who had spent the week doing water-walks and water-relays as part of our week-long sponsored events for COCO, parents turned out in force to show off their prowess on the running track! The serious runners entered as all-adult teams, each sprinting in a 4 x 50m relay whilst carrying a pretty heavy water container. Not easy! With original team names such as ‘Tough Mums’, ‘Reception Racers’ and Fellside Dinosaurs’, these teams had surely come to win!
Not knowing exactly how many parents would want to take part, we were delighted that so many volunteers came to support the event. One of the nicest aspects of the afternoon was the number of impromptu teams that sprang up, with parents being persuaded to run by their children! We even had many family teams with mums and dads running with their children and making it a real family occasion! In the end, we set away more than 20 races!
Of course, the afternoon was not all about the relays. Many families also arrived to join in with a stroll or saunter around the track carrying water containers, just as the children had done during the week. It was lovely to hear some of the children instruct parents not to spill any water, deeming it so precious! Our message has certainly hit home!
As Fellside families know, our sponsored events have all been in aid of COCO and Focussa Primary School for whom we are hoping to raise £3k to enable the school to have a much-needed toilet block. We are now inviting children to return their sponsorship forms and money to school. I will keep you up to date with how much we have raised over the course of the next few weeks.
Many, many thanks to everyone for joining in with Friday’s after-school event. The turnout far, far exceeded our expectations and we are, as ever, very grateful for your support.
