Over the last few weeks, Year 3, 4 and 5 have had the pleasure of hosting Sarah Willetts, from the Gateshead Family Learning Team, as she runs a Family Science Club.  It has been a wonderful opportunity for parents to work alongside their children and share in some exciting science investigations and stoke their child’s passion in this fascinating area of the curriculum.

So far, they have investigated density to make floating objects sink and sinking objects float before using this idea to create their own lava lamps.  They have also made a strange substance called Oobleck.  Is it a solid?  Is it a liquid? That was the question on everyone’s lips.  It behaved like both; pouring like thick paint and turning into a solid when we mashed it in our hands.

It has been amazing fun and we can’t wait to see what happens in the final two sessions.
