Chase Park was a hive of activity today, Saturday 23rd September, when it was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Pauline Dillon, following a million pound make-over made possible through lottery funding. Fellside children were among the crowds, but 2 of our number were VIP guests! The children, from our Year 2 class, entered (and won) a competition to design the end of one of the new benches that grace Chase Park, and today their efforts were recognised when they got to meet the Mayor and receive a special certificate to commemorate this special occasion. Best of all, perhaps, the children also got to see their designs on the benches. Just how fantastic do they look?
Other designs from children at other Whickham Primaries, including Washingwell, Clover Hill and Whickham Parochial were also recognised. All of the benches look amazing – as does the rest of Chase Park. Congratulations to all of the winners.
What a lovely morning – made even better because the sun shone!
