It was a busy Mothers Day for certain members of our Year 5 class and their families who travelled to Cumbria this morning to take part in the Borders Finals.  The team members are all made up of Fellside pupils who train with Miss Knox, though on this occasion they were representing Gateshead Hockey Club. They had reached the finals having qualified as North East winners of the Under 10 Boys In2Hockey National Tournament held at Heaton Manor School a couple of weeks ago. Today, two very close games resulted in 1-0 wins over Windermere & Kirkby Stephen Hockey Clubs. (Note: your eyes are not deceiving you: our ‘boys’ team includes a very talented girl hockey player too – all within the rules of the tournament!)

Today’s success means that they now proceed to represent Tyne & Wear & Cumbria in the North of England Finals next month in Leeds.

Huge congratulations to the team and their coach, Miss Knox.  Thanks also go to the parents and grandparents who travelled to Cumbria today to support the children.  A special mention to all of the mums and grandmas in particular, for getting up early on Mothers Day and forefeiting a relaxing morning and breakfast in bed!

Good luck in Leeds, children!
