We were delighted to invite Jess Hamer and Allison Curbishley, Development Officer and Ambassador respectively for local charity COCO to Fellside on Friday 18th May.  It was especially pertinent that Allison, an ex-professional runner, should come to see us since the occasion was to present the funds raised from sponsorship in our recent Fun Run event.  Before the cheque presentation (made by our Alnwick House Captains), Allison gave the children an inspirational talk about her career as a runner; including how she won both a Commonwealth Games (1998) silver medal; as well as a European Championships bronze.  Allison kindly spent time talking to the children at the end of assembly, ensuring they all got to see her medals.  She even brought in a gold medal belonging to her partner, Steve Cram (founder of COCO).  The children were delighted to meet her!

The purpose of the assembly was, however, to congratulate the children on their achievements in running in our recent Fun Run.  We were staggered to have raised £2005.10, and delighted to learn that this was enough not only to replace a blown-off roof at Mercy Primary School in Kenya, but also to pay for new walls. What an achievement!  The children sang our school anthem, Earth Song, for Allison and Jess.  I know they were suitably impressed!

Here are some photographs of the event – including one of our House Captains with Jess and Allison.
