Each year, we support the Shoebox Appeal led by charity ‘Operation Christmas Child’.  Our shoebox gifts have been sent far and wide, including to Syria and Latvia.  As well as packing presents into shoeboxes for children who otherwise would get nothing at Christmas time, children at Fellside also contribute to the charity’s work by donating packets of sweets, forming a ‘sweetie mountain.’

In the last 3-4 years, there has been a competition of sorts between schools who support the Shoebox Appeal to see which one can collect sweets to form the biggest sweet mountain.  We were delighted to learn recently that Fellside has had this honour bestowed on us for the 2017 Christmas season, and we received this magnificent cup in the assembly led by representatives from the charity on Monday 8th October.

Now, of course, we’re about to start the collection of shoeboxes for Christmas 2018 – and, of course, build another sweetie mountain.  Wouldn’t it be great to win the title two years in a row?

Thank you to everyone who supports the charity each Christmas.  We are grateful for your generosity, as I am sure are the recipients of the lovely gifts you send.
