Fellside children were full of excitement as this year’s annual Conker Competition got into full swing!

An amazing seventy-two children from Year 3 to 6 signed up to take part in the competition, which followed the same past-paced rules as the World Conker Championships (which began in Northamptonshire in the 1960s!) The children prepared their conkers and then took part in a number of short rounds across two weeks to hopefully pass through to the finals, finishing just in time for the end of the half term!

The final battle was a tense 5-minute round of ‘most hits’. Both conkers and participants had put up an excellent fight but in the end we had our victor (who has in fact won when in Year 3 as well!)

Well done to all conker champions. Perhaps we’ll see you in the World Conker Championships in years to come!

A special thank you as well to our Year 5 and 6 House Captains and School Councillors, who were fair and supportive referees for the games. Your help is very much appreciated and we are thankful to have such wonderful role models in our school!
