Year Four

Miss Robinson's Welcome

Welcome to Year 4.

This is an exciting year, where children are introduce to weekly swimming lessons for all abilities. We explore the ancient Egyptians and Anglo Saxons in History while in Geography we look at volcanoes, earthquakes and sustaining the world's resources. To develop their learning, children will have the chance to experience history firsthand when handling artefacts in Durham Musem and on a trip to Jarrow hall, meaning that they can immerse yourselves in the time periods.

Children in Year Four will continue to build upon your music abilities, with the added bonus of class ukelele lessons for a term and the availability to continue violin or start guitar and flute lessons. In English, students will have a varied curriculum learning about poetry, exaptational texts, diaries, newspaper reports, biographies, narrative and persuasive writing along their creativity to really shine. In mathematics, they will continue to progress with our spiral curriculum with an extra push towards times tables. In our science, we aim to improve our working scientifically with more experiments and hands on activities through our selections of topics. After school, Year 4 has the privilege to continue hokey or athletics and in summer term there is the option to start robotics.

As they move further up the Key Stage, they will be encouraged and supported to become more independent not only in their learning but also personally and socially.
