Year 1 Firefighter Visit

As part of our Great Fire of London and Gateshead topics, we have been discussing the changes within the fire service from 1666 to now and how fire safety has changed dramatically over 350 years! We had the pleasure of Mr Hetherington visit us yesterday, who is a firefighter at County Durham and Darlington fire and rescue service. He read us a story all about keeping safe in the home, what to do in the event of a fire at home, the importance of smoke alarms and the stop, drop and roll technique. He brought some of his uniform along to show us how firefighters stay safe and talked about how firefighters not only put out fires, but rescue people and animals from a variety of situations.
